Unlike many village communities Histon and Impington do not have a community centre, and the 2001 Community Appraisal
showed many residents wanted to see a community/village centre built.

On approaching the end of the  first decade of this century this is perhaps an opportunity to reflect on what sort of community facilities and services we would like to see in the next 10/20 years, and even in difficult economic times there can be a need to plan for the future.

Following the successful completion of the Recreation Ground development project in 2006 Histon and Impington Parish Councils feel it is the right time to explore the need for a community centre in whatever form(s) that this may take.

A community centre could be considered to be important for our two villages to:

•   Provide services and new opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy and benefit from.
•   Improve the quality of life for residents.
•   Provide an added sense of identity within our villages.
•   Continue the future development of our community.

Potential opportunities could include;

•  Meeting provision for village groups and organisations for all ages.
•  Arts participation and performance.
•  Services for all older residents.
•  Provision for young people and young people’s groups.
•  Provision and services for children and families.
•  Preserving and increasing understanding of village heritage.
•  Facilities for private and commercial hire.
